IONNA, Wawa Expand EV Charging to Over 3,000 Bays
DURHAM, NC — IONNA, a joint venture of eight automakers, has partnered with convenience store chain Wawa to expand its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, bringing its total to more than 3,000 contracted charging bays.
The first of the new charging stations, called a Rechargery, is scheduled to open next week in Daytona Beach, Florida.
IONNA aims to deploy 30,000 charging bays across the United States by 2030.
The partnership, involving Wawa’s network of more than 1,100 stores, represents IONNA’s largest single commitment to EV charging to date.
Additional Rechargeries will follow the Daytona Beach location at Wawa’s West International Speedway store in Bradenton, Pensacola, and Orlando, Florida, all of which are currently under development.
IONNA charging stations feature 400kW chargers and offer amenities such as car care services, canopy coverage, and access to Wawa’s food and beverages.
IONNA has 3,064 bays contracted, with 400 under construction or in further stages of development and 212 operational.

Wawa, a Pennsylvania-based chain founded in 1803, operates stores across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, North Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio, Indiana and Washington, D.C.
“We continue to expand our EV services and provide customers with a one-stop shop for fresh food, beverages and EV charging,” said Rich Makin, Chief Fuel Officer at Wawa.
IONNA was formed by BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Stellanti,s and Toyota to create a nationwide network of ultra-fast EV charging stations.
The partnership with Wawa supports IONNA’s plan to meet its 2030 goal.
