LG Display Starts Mass Production of 1,500-Nit OLED Panels
Seoul, South Korea - LG Display Co., Ltd. announced on Friday that it has commenced mass production of 27-inch OLED monitor panels featuring a peak brightness of 1,500 nits, utilizing its fourth-generation OLED technology.
The company stated that the panels utilize Primary RGB Tandem technology, which stacks red, green, and blue colors into four separate layers.
LG Display said that this delivers a peak brightness of 1,500 nits, based on a 1.5% average picture level, and features a 280Hz refresh rate.
The panels achieve 99.5% color reproduction and a response time of 0.03ms, according to the company. LG Display stated that LCD monitors typically have response times of up to 1.0 ms.
LG Display has announced the development of a 540Hz OLED monitor panel with a QHD resolution, and plans to unveil it soon.
The company said mass production of the 540Hz panel will begin in the second half of this year after global manufacturers complete launch evaluations.
The company said exceeding 500Hz refresh rate had been considered difficult due to picture quality issues.
LG Display stated that it addressed this issue by developing a new algorithm.
LG Display stated that its Dynamic Frequency and Resolution technology enables refresh rates of up to 720Hz in HD resolution.
The technology allows users to select refresh rate modes tailored to specific content, according to the company.
The panels block 99% of internal and external light reflections through special film and improved panel structure, LG Display said.
The company said this maintains picture quality without color distortion under lighting conditions of 500 lux.
LG Display announced that its panels have received certifications for Perfect Black, Perfect Color, and 100% Color Fidelity from UL Solutions and Intertek.
The 540Hz panel achieves a ClearMR rating of 21,000 under Video Electronics Standards Association standards, the company said.
"OLED monitors are rapidly expanding their market share thanks to perfect black levels and fast response times - capabilities fundamentally unattainable by LCD monitors," said Hyeon-woo Lee, Head of the Large Display Business Unit at LG Display.
LG Display stated that major global manufacturers have completed their launch evaluations for the panels.
