NAVER Cloud Unveils NAVIX: Free Enterprise Linux Distribution

Seoul, South Korea - NAVER Cloud announced on Monday the release of NAVIX, a free enterprise-focused Linux distribution that the company develops and manages internally.

The company said in a statement that NAVIX is among the few Linux distributions developed in South Korea.

It is distinguished by its direct implementation and optimization within NAVER's enterprise infrastructure.

The company reported that 15% of NAVER's infrastructure currently operates on NAVIX and plans to expand its implementation gradually.

According to the company, the distribution is built on the OpenELA (Open Enterprise Linux Association) foundation, offering compatibility, security, and flexibility features that allow users to freely access, modify, and distribute the source code.

NAVER Cloud said the launch addresses growing enterprise concerns over recent commercial Linux distributions, where sudden support terminations and transitions to paid services have created uncertainties for businesses regarding their development environments.

"NAVIX represents the culmination of developers' search for a sustainable, free Linux distribution that addresses concerns about technology support termination and paid conversion in the Linux market," said Byung-jun Kim, Director at NAVER Cloud.

The company emphasized its commitment to providing long-term technical support and updates, aiming to create a sustainable Linux ecosystem that enables businesses to focus on innovation and growth.
