Naver Launches AI Video Platform, Plans XR Technology
Seoul, South Korea - Naver Corp. said on Thursday that it will integrate artificial intelligence technology across its video content services and introduce an Android-based extended reality platform by 2025.
The company announced three technology components it calls "Vision Tech Triangle," comprising media AI, XR studios, and virtual streaming capabilities. Naver said the technologies will be applied to its video services.
The company's AIEncode technology, introduced in 2024, reduces transmission rates by up to 30 percent while maintaining video quality, according to Naver.
The system applies to video compression, image optimization, and real-time streaming optimization. Naver plans to expand its MUAi platform for video analysis.
The system will include Auto-Chapter technology for video segmentation and content analysis covering tags, mood, location, activities, and emotions.
The company also announced AutoClipAi technology, which converts text content into a video format using multimodal large language models with automated audio, background music, and visual effects.
The company operates Vision Stage and Motion Stage production facilities at its headquarters.
Vision Stage provides virtual backgrounds for content creation across various industries, including commerce and film production.
Motion Stage supports 3D content creation for live streamers, providing real-time character animation and seamless integration of virtual backgrounds.
Naver's Prism Live Studio application has produced more than 93 million broadcasts since 2019, with approximately 130,000 live streams created daily. International users comprise roughly 90 percent of users.
The application holds approximately 47 percent of downloads among the top 20 global streaming applications in its category and roughly 80 percent domestic market share in South Korea, according to company figures.
Prism Live Studio utilizes Adaptive Bitrate Publish technology, which adjusts video quality according to network conditions.
The platform incorporates Naver's Clova speech technology for transcript generation during broadcasts.
Naver said it is preparing an Android operating system-based XR content platform covering augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality applications.
"Naver is focusing on XR-related media technology development in anticipation of increased VR device adoption and mainstream market penetration," said Sung-ho Kim, leader of Naver's Immersive Media Platform division.
The company has operated video services since launching NAVER TV Cast in 2012, followed by NOW and VLIVE platforms.
Current services include live streaming for shopping events and entertainment content.
