Rakuten Rakuma Launches Cross-Border Fashion Sales on eBay USA
Tokyo, Japan—Rakuten Rakuma, a marketplace app operated by Rakuten Group, will launch cross-border sales on eBay USA in late February.
This will allow U.S. shoppers to purchase pre-owned fashion items from its Official Shops program.
The company opened applications for its Rakuma Overseas Omakase Plan on February 7.
This program will cover products listed by eBay's Authenticity Guarantee service, which provides free authentication for branded products.
It will initially start with handbags before expanding to other categories.
The initiative follows a trial that began in May 2024 with seven Rakuma Official Shops and has expanded to over 30 shops.
With the introduction of the authentication service, Rakuten Rakuma has removed the price ceiling for handbag listings.
Rakuten Rakuma's program requires participating merchants to meet specific criteria, including a minimum three-month operational history as a Rakuma Official Shop and no existing eBay store presence.
Eligible items encompass pre-owned fashion goods including women's and men's clothing, watches, jewelry, shoes, leather accessories, bags, and kimonos, provided they comply with Washington Convention (CITES) regulations and eBay's policies.
eBay Japan's September 2024 data showed that "Women's Apparel & Bag Brand Accessories" and "Watches, Parts & Accessories" maintained their positions as top-performing categories, consistent with the previous year and the April-June 2024 period.
The program's dedicated eBay store will operate through ebay.com/str/rakutenrakumajapan02.
