SK Hynix Unveils 61TB Data Center SSD with PCIe 5.0
Seoul, South Korea—SK Hynix Inc. announced today the development of its PS1012 U.2 solid-state drive (SSD), which features 61 terabytes of storage capacity for artificial intelligence data centers.
The new drive employs quadruple-level cell (QLC) technology, enabling higher storage density than previous technologies.
The PS1012 U.2 utilizes a PCIe 5.0 interface to achieve data transfer speeds of up to 32 gigabytes per second, with sequential read performance reaching 13 gigabytes per second, double the speed of PCIe 4.0-based products.
SK Hynix developed the drive to support Open Compute Project (OCP) 2.0 specifications, ensuring compatibility with global AI customers' various data center server configurations.
The company plans to distribute product samples to global server manufacturers within 2024 for evaluation.
SK Hynix aims to expand its product line to include 122TB capacity drives by the third quarter of 2025.
Future development will target 244TB products based on its recently developed 321-layer 4D NAND technology.
"SK hynix and Solidigm are strengthening our QLC-based high-capacity SSD lineup to solidify our technological leadership in NAND solutions for AI," said Ahn Hyun, President and Chief Development Officer of SK Hynix.
The development builds upon the company's collaboration with its subsidiary Solidigm, which previously commercialized the first QLC-based enterprise SSD globally.
SK Hynix expects this new product to strengthen its AI data center SSD market position.
