SAN FRANCISCO, CAAnthropic announced Friday that it plans to open an office in Seoul in early 2026 as part of its Asia-Pacific expansion.

The company, which develops the Claude AI assistant, reported that its run-rate revenue in the Asia-Pacific region increased more than tenfold over the past year. Anthropic has also opened offices in Tokyo and Bengaluru.

South Korean users rank among the top five globally for total and per capita usage of Claude, according to the company's Economic Index.

The number of active weekly users of Claude Code in South Korea increased sixfold over the past 4 months.

More than 25 percent of Claude Code users are located in Asia-Pacific countries, according to the company.

One South Korean software engineer ranks as the top Claude Code user globally by volume.

Anthropic said the number of its large business accounts in Asia-Pacific—defined as customers generating more than KRW 144 million (US$100,000) each in annual run-rate revenue—grew eightfold in the past year.

“South Korea is at the forefront of AI innovation in Asia, and we have already seen strong adoption of Claude in the region,” Dario Amodei, chief executive of Anthropic, said in a statement.

Law&Company uses Claude, an AI legal assistant, which increased lawyer efficiency rates by nearly 100 percent, according to the company.

SK Telecom has developed a customer service model using Claude.

“South Korean businesses are among the world’s most sophisticated users of Claude, particularly for complex coding and enterprise applications,” Paul Smith, chief commercial officer of Anthropic, said.

Company executives are scheduled to visit Seoul next week.

The South Korean government has announced plans to position the country among the top three global AI development hubs.

Anthropic said it will build a team in Seoul to collaborate with South Korean businesses, government agencies, research institutions, and industry partners.
