Seoul, South Korea - Coupang Inc. (NYSE: CPNG) announced that it has renamed its cloud computing service to "Coupang Intelligent Cloud" and updated its logo, according to a company statement released on Wednesday.

The service was previously known as Coupang AI Cloud Computing and provided graphics processing unit infrastructure to the company's internal operations, as well as to research institutions and startups.

Coupang operates data centers in Seoul and its surrounding areas, which include power systems, cooling technology, backup power structures, communication networks, and security systems, according to an industry-related source.

The facilities allow operations to continue during disruptions, Coupang said.

The company provides graphics processing units through individual server access or clustered configurations tailored to client specifications, the statement said.

Coupang stated that it will continue to update its hardware to current GPU models.

Coupang has utilized its computing infrastructure for internal business operations over multiple years, which the company claims has improved customer experience and increased sales for 230,000 small and medium-sized merchants on its platform.

The Seoul-area location of the data centers reduces service delays for local users, according to the company.

A company representative stated that Coupang Intelligent Cloud will "provide the highest level of AI cloud computing services based on the latest GPU servers and stable large-scale data centers," and will collaborate with "startups and research institutions" to develop the "AI ecosystem."

Coupang applied last month for a government program called the Artificial Intelligence Computing Resource Utilization Infrastructure Strengthening Project, managed by the Ministry of Science and ICT, the company said.

The statement indicated Coupang plans to participate in additional government programs related to artificial intelligence development.

The company previously served external clients, including research institutions and startups, alongside its internal operations, according to the statement.
