Hyundai Hires Ex-NVIDIA, Tesla Executive for Autonomous AI

Hyundai Motor Group appoints Dr. Minwoo Park from NVIDIA as CEO of 42dot to lead autonomous driving and software-defined vehicle development.

Seoul, South Korea - Hyundai Motor Group announced Wednesday the appointment of Minwoo Park as head of its Advanced Vehicle Platform Division and chief executive of autonomous driving subsidiary 42dot.

Park joins Hyundai from NVIDIA, where he served as vice president and worked on development frameworks for autonomous driving perception technology and mass production and commercialization of the company's self-driving software platform, according to the company.

Before his tenure at NVIDIA, Park led the first Tesla Vision release for Autopilot, working on the transition to camera-centric deep learning systems that the company said established the foundation for software-defined autonomous technology.

The appointment is part of Hyundai Motor Group's initiative to shift toward software-centered mobility operations. 

The group said it aims to acceleratethe development and commercialization of vehicle software technology across software-defined vehicles and autonomous driving.

The company said it aims to compete with technology companies in the autonomous and software-defined vehicle sectors.
