San Jose, CA / Seoul, South KoreaHyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp. have expanded a partnership with Nvidia to develop autonomous driving technology, integrating the chipmaker's artificial intelligence platforms into forthcoming software-defined vehicles, the companies said Tuesday.

Under the agreement, Hyundai Motor Group will incorporate Nvidia's Level 2 and higher autonomous driving systems into select upcoming vehicle models.

The companies said the integration aims to leverage vehicle data to develop proprietary driving AI models.

Hyundai and Kia's autonomous vehicle joint venture, Motional, will also discuss with Nvidia the potential integration of these technologies into its Level 4 robotaxi development.

The partnership will use Nvidia's Drive Hyperion platform to establish an architecture scalable from Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems to Level 4 autonomous technology.

According to the companies, the collaboration is aimed at creating a data cycle that utilizes driving data collected from Hyundai and Kia fleets to train, validate, and update AI models for production vehicles.

Hyundai Motor Group said it plans to consolidate collected data into a unified learning pipeline using Nvidia's data platforms.
