Korean Air Unveils First Major Rebrand Since 1984

Korean Air modernizes iconic Taegeuk mark in corporate identity update, introduces luxury inflight services and new aircraft livery after 41 years.

Seoul, South Korea - Korean Air revealed its new corporate identity on Monday, modernizing its iconic Taegeuk mark for the first time since 1984. 

The airline presented the updated logo during a "Rising Night" event at its Seoul headquarters.

The redesigned logo maintains the traditional Taegeuk symbol but with more contemporary styling, utilizing a single dark blue color. 

The new typography for "KOREAN AIR" incorporates brush-like finishes and gentle curves that the company describes as representing "Korean elegance in a modern way."

According to Korean Air, the visual identity will be implemented in three versions: a complete version with the symbol and "KOREAN AIR" text, a condensed version with just "KOREAN," and a simplified version showing only the symbol.

The airline simultaneously introduced a new aircraft livery featuring updated branding. 

A Boeing 787-10 aircraft bearing the new design will enter service on Tuesday on the Incheon-Tokyo Narita route. 

The livery prominently displays "KOREAN" in bold lettering, and the airline noted that it follows practices similar to those of other international carriers.

Korean Air Chairman Cho Won-tae said the rebrand reflects the company's mission to "connect hearts and worlds through the skies" following its corporate integration. 

He emphasized the airline's commitment to developing "an unrivaled safety system" and building stakeholder trust.

Alongside the visual rebrand, Korean Air announced upgrades to its inflight services.

Chef Kim Se-kyung has developed new meal options, including modern Korean dishes such as octopus-nutritious rice and beef brisket bibimbap. 

The airline partnered with luxury brands, including Bernardaud, Christofle, and Riedel, for first-class tableware and Armani Casa for business-class service items.

The new inflight service will launch on ten major long-haul routes in June and expand to all long-haul and medium- to short-haul routes by September.
