LAS VEGAS, NV - LG Electronics used its annual product showcase on Sunday to introduce a household robot and detail plans to deploy its artificial intelligence technology in automobiles and commercial cooling systems.

The South Korean manufacturer presented LG CLOiD, a robot with two arms and five-fingered hands intended to perform domestic tasks such as folding laundry and organizing dishes.

The device is designed to operate stably when pulled by children or pets, according to the company.

Chief Executive Lyu Jae-cheol told approximately 1,000 attendees at the Las Vegas event that LG is pursuing what it calls a “Zero Labor Home,” in which networked appliances function as a single system to automate household tasks.

He described the company’s understanding of customer lifestyles as an advantage in developing such solutions.

The company also introduced consumer electronics products. Its OLED evo W6 television measures nine millimeters thick, a dimension achieved through component miniaturization and architectural redesign.

The television operates without cables via LG's True Wireless technology.

An updated LG SIGNATURE refrigerator processes conversational queries and suggests storage settings.

When asked about storing meat for a week, the appliance recommends an appropriate mode. It also recognizes ingredients and proposes recipes.

The company’s SIGNATURE Oven Range identifies ingredients and offers selections from more than 80 recipes.

A demonstration showed the CLOiD robot adjusting thermostats and retrieving clothing from a dryer after receiving notice through the company’s ThinQ application that a user was returning home.

The robot suggested indoor exercise as an alternative to jogging, given the forecast rain.

Beyond home products, LG said it is developing automotive systems with on-device artificial intelligence, including gaze-tracking and adaptive displays.

The company is also working on cooling systems for data centers supporting artificial intelligence operations, with projects in the Middle East and partnerships with GRC and Flex, companies specializing in cooling technology and infrastructure.

LG introduced what it calls “Affectionate Intelligence” two years ago. The current initiative represents an expansion of that effort.
