LG webOS Platform Powers Kia EV Streaming in Europe

SEOUL, South Korea – LG Electronics announced on Wednesday that its webOS-based Automotive Content Platform (ACP) will provide in-car streaming services for Kia Corporation’s new electric vehicles, slated for launch in Europe.

The streaming platform will debut on the recently released EV3 and will be rolled out to other upcoming Kia models, including the EV4, EV5, and the New Sportage, LG Electronics said in a statement.

LG’s ACP runs on the company’s webOS operating system, which powers more than 240 million smart TVs globally.

The automotive version of the platform is designed to provide access to content and services tailored to the in-car environment, while complying with driving safety standards.

The system allows passengers to stream content on the vehicle’s infotainment display when the car is parked.

Supported applications at launch include Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, LG Channels, Baby Shark World for Kids, Stingray Karaoke, Play.Works, Haystack News, and Vasari.

Additional services, including Rakuten TV, Napste,r and the German OTT provider Joyn, are expected to be added later this year.

A data plan is required to use the platform’s streaming features, and some applications may require additional subscriptions, the company said.

The ACP is part of LG’s AlphaWare suite, a software-defined vehicle solution designed to enhance in-vehicle infotainment and connectivity.

LG said the system is designed to transform car interiors into multifunctional spaces for digital media consumption.

“By bringing the webOS Automotive Content Platform to Kia’s European model lineup, we are making it easy for people to enjoy their favorite content wherever they go,” said Eun Seok-hyun, president of LG’s Vehicle Solution Company.

LG’s Vehicle Solution Company also supplies head units, displays, connectivity modules, advanced driver-assistance systems, and software platforms for software-defined vehicles.

The company has expanded its portfolio to include automotive lighting systems, electric powertrains, and cybersecurity components.
