Tokyo, Japan - LINE Yahoo Corporation activated an artificial intelligence summarization function on its Yahoo! JAPAN mobile application on Tuesday, according to a company statement.

The function, termed "AI Matome," processes articles from Yahoo! News Topics into three-point summaries.

The system categorizes content under headings including "What Happened," "details," "Supplementary Information," "Future Outlook," and "comments," then outputs three points per article based on content type, the company stated.

Users access the summaries by selecting article headlines tagged with an "AI Matome" label in the application's "All" tab.

The function is compatible with iOS version 4.132.0 or later, Android version 3.187.0 or later, and the Yahoo! JAPAN smartphone browser.

The company reported it has secured content usage permissions from more than 50 media organizations as of September 30, 2025. Participating outlets include ABEMA TIMES, ENCOUNT, FNN Prime Online, Impress Watch, ORICON NEWS, THE GOLD ONLINE, Otona Answer, Kyodo News, Crankin!, Sponichi Annex, Netorabo, and Reuters.

The function processes only articles from organizations that granted AI content usage authorization.

The summarization operates through OpenAI's API, according to the statement.

Yahoo! News Topics displays articles selected by an editorial staff applying criteria of public interest and social relevance, the company stated.

LINE Yahoo described the addition as part of development efforts to transform the Yahoo! JAPAN application into what it termed an AI agent for daily user activities.

The company has deployed three other AI functions within Yahoo Topics. The "Key Points" function displays editorial content alongside AI-organized supplementary material.

The "Everyone's Opinion" function generates poll topics related to news articles.

The "Yahoo Comment AI Summary" function condenses user comments posted on articles.

LINE Yahoo stated it provides no guarantee regarding the reliability, accuracy, completeness, or effectiveness of AI-generated output.
