LINE Yahoo Launches AI Travel Planning Tool in Japan

Tokyo, Japan - LINE Yahoo Co., Ltd. said on Thursday that it has launched an artificial intelligence tool that creates travel itineraries through text conversations, adding the feature to its Yahoo! Search platform.

The "Outing AI Assistant" allows users to request travel plans by typing queries such as "Tell me about Kyoto tourism itineraries."

The system then displays tourist spots with photos, descriptions, travel times, and transportation options.

Users can modify suggestions by requesting changes, such as adding specific destinations or switching from public transport to car travel. 

The tool uses OpenAI's technology to generate responses.

LINE Yahoo surveyed 3,000 users between July 2 and 4, 2025, regarding their usage of generative AI for information searches. 

Fifty-three percent said they would find travel itinerary suggestions and the ability to customize those suggestions convenient.

The feature is accessible through Yahoo! Search by tapping an AI Assistant icon or selecting buttons that appear in search results for tourism-related queries.

Users can also access it through a banner on the AI Assistant main page.

When users inquire about tourist attractions, the system provides multiple options, accompanied by photos and descriptions.

It can filter results based on criteria like "national treasures" or "child-friendly locations." Each suggestion includes a "View Details" button showing operating hours and reviews.

The tool works on Yahoo! JAPAN mobile apps for iOS and Android, the mobile browser version of Yahoo! JAPAN, and web search within the LINE app. Users must be at least 13 years old.

LINE Yahoo said it does not guarantee the accuracy or reliability of the AI-generated content. 

The service operates under the company's standard terms of use and specific guidelines for the AI travel feature.
