LINE Yahoo Launches Generative AI Shopping Agent

Tokyo, Japan - LINE Yahoo Corp. on Wednesday announced the launch of an artificial intelligence shopping agent on its Yahoo! Japan Shopping e-commerce platform. 

The agent employs OpenAI's API to facilitate product search, comparison, and order tracking via a conversational interface.

The feature is available on PC web browsers as well as iOS and Android applications.

The agent replaces traditional keyword search navigation with a chat-based interface that can be used across the homepage, search results, and individual product pages.

The agent summarizes product specifications, compares items, and analyzes customer reviews.

The system uses data associated with individual Yahoo! JAPAN IDs, such as purchase history and user attributes, to generate recommendations.

The system also provides estimated delivery dates, tracks shipping status, and identifies available platform discounts.

After a purchase, users may inquire about order status or request alternative products to those previously purchased through the agent.

A bookmarking function enables users to receive price-drop notifications via the LINE messaging application.

LINE Yahoo stated that it plans to improve the accuracy of the agent's recommendations using user feedback and usage data.

The company indicated that certain products are excluded from the feature and that the accuracy and completeness of AI-generated outputs are not guaranteed.

The rollout is part of a broader initiative by LINE Yahoo to integrate AI agent functions across its services.
