Tokyo, Japan — LY Corporation has launched artificial intelligence search capabilities on the desktop version of Yahoo Japan Search, expanding functions that were previously available only on mobile devices since October 2024.

The company introduced two features for PC users: an AI assistant function that operates through a chat interface and a generative AI response system that displays automated answers in search results.

The desktop launch follows the mobile implementation that began in October 2024.

LY Corporation conducted a user survey between April 16 and April 30, 2025, involving 114 Yahoo Search users.

The survey found 82 percent of respondents who used the generative AI functions reported satisfaction levels of "very satisfied," "satisfied," or "somewhat satisfied."

The generative AI response function initially covered instructional searches and definition queries when launched on smartphones.

LY Corporation expanded the feature in February 2025 to include seasonal queries such as "timing for mid-year gifts" and measurement questions, including "how many grams in one cup of rice."

Desktop users access the AI assistant through an icon positioned beside search boxes on the Yahoo Search homepage and results pages.

The generative AI response system activates automatically when users enter supported search terms.

The platform utilizes Google Cloud's Vertex AI technology

LY Corporation has specified usage restrictions for individuals under 13 years of age and requires Yahoo Japan ID authentication for open-ended questioning within the AI assistant function.

LY Corporation stated that the features are intended to help users obtain information with fewer steps and conduct more extensive research on topics of interest.

The company indicated plans to develop additional generative AI functions for shopping and recreational activities, but did not provide specific timelines or details.
