Seoul, South Korea - Naver Cloud said it has released a database service built on the open-source Valkey platform.

The product, Cloud DB for Cache, is an in-memory cache database service. The company said it was the first Korean company to offer a commercial service based on Valkey.

The move comes after Redis, an open-source in-memory database platform, changed its licensing terms to impose commercial licensing requirements on cloud service providers using its software.

The company said its product maintains compatibility with Redis.

The company said the product holds Cloud Service Security Certification from the South Korean authorities.

Naver Cloud said it holds CSAP certification for its database products, including relational database management systems and NoSQL databases.

CSAP certification applies to cloud services used by South Korean public sector organizations.

Jeong Seung-yong, Cloud DB platform leader at Naver Cloud, said the company planned to expand cloud services for domestic companies and public institutions and offer alternatives on costs and regulatory compliance in the domestic cloud market.

Naver Cloud said it had developed open-source database products since 2017 and obtained CSAP SaaS certification for database products in 2024.
