OSAKA, Japan - NAVER Cloud showcased AI for elderly care at the Osaka-Kansai Expo this week.

The company showed two technologies during the July 9-11 exhibition.

The first, named Clova CareCall, conducts automated telephone calls to elderly individuals and processes voice data to identify potential medical emergencies, enabling faster intervention and reducing response time.

The second uses digital modeling to track movement patterns in urban environments, helping municipalities allocate resources to areas with unusual or risky foot traffic, according to company representatives.

NAVER Cloud has deployed Clova CareCall in Izumo City, Japan, where the system makes calls to elderly residents living alone.

In several documented cases, the software enabled medical personnel to respond quickly when anomalies were detected in the voice patterns of elderly users, averting more serious emergencies.

The software analyzes conversation patterns and connects users to medical facilities when predetermined parameters are triggered, according to company statements.

The technology placed fifth in Japan’s Cabinet Secretariat Dejidenko competition in March among several hundred entries.

NAVER Cloud was the first non-Japanese company to reach the competition finals.

The company’s digital twin software generates three-dimensional computer models of city areas and monitors individuals’ locations using data from public surveillance cameras and anonymized mobile device signals.

The system alerts operators when detected movement patterns deviate from established baselines.

NAVER Cloud stated it plans to expand both technologies to additional Japanese municipalities beyond Izumo, though no specific locations or timelines were disclosed.

Chief Executive Kim Yu-won said the technologies represent infrastructure for aging societies.

The company indicated it will pursue additional applications across unspecified sectors.

The exhibition attracted visits from Japanese municipal officials and residents, according to NAVER Cloud.
