Barcelona, Spain – NVIDIA Corp. and a group of 12 telecommunications and infrastructure organizations announced a joint initiative Monday at Mobile World Congress to develop sixth-generation wireless networks based on artificial-intelligence-native and software-defined platforms.

The group, which includes Booz Allen, BT Group, Cisco, Deutsche Telekom, Ericsson, MITRE, Nokia, the OCUDU Ecosystem Foundation, ODC, SK Telecom, SoftBank Corp., and T-Mobile, stated that it intends to create open, interoperable network architectures by integrating artificial intelligence across radio access, edge, and core systems.

The initiative focuses on an AI-RAN architecture intended to evolve through software updates.

The participating companies said the infrastructure is intended to address the operational complexity and security requirements of autonomous machines, vehicles, and sensor networks—collectively described in the announcement as "physical AI."

Technical goals include integrated sensing and communications, secure data transmission, and supply-chain resilience.

NVIDIA Chief Executive Jensen Huang said the collaboration is aimed at converting global telecommunications networks into AI infrastructure. Executives from BT Group, Deutsche Telekom, SK Telecom, SoftBank, and T-Mobile said the transition to AI-native platforms is designed to embed intelligence directly into network architecture while preserving compatibility with existing 5G Advanced deployments.

The U.S. government expressed support for the initiative.

Arielle Roth, administrator of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, stated that the international coalition aligns with U.S. economic and national security interests.

The announcement builds on NVIDIA's prior work in the sector.

NVIDIA is a founding member of the AI-RAN Alliance, a 130-member industry group, and participates in the OCUDU Initiative led by the U.S. FutureG Office.

In October, NVIDIA, along with several current coalition partners, launched the AI-Native Wireless Networks project.

Internationally, NVIDIA participates in industry consortia in South Korea, conducts applied research with the U.K. Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology, and collaborates with public and private organizations across Europe and Japan on the development of programmable 6G networks.
