Tokyo, Japan - OpenAI and Japan's Digital Agency announced a collaboration to explore the use of generative artificial intelligence in public services.

Japan's Digital Agency will make Gennai, an AI tool powered by OpenAI's technology, available to government employees, the organizations said.

OpenAI has contributed to a pilot launched by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and the Group of Seven to monitor the Hiroshima AI Process, led by the Japanese government.

The Hiroshima AI Process Comprehensive Policy Framework comprises guidelines and codes of conduct for advanced AI systems, the organizations stated.

The framework extends beyond G7 nations to include governments, private sector organizations, academic institutions, and civil society in Asian countries and emerging economies.

OpenAI will explore initiatives for government AI, including pursuing certification under Japan's Information System Security Management and Assessment Program, the company said.

The company stated that it will strengthen partnerships with the Japanese government, local authorities, educational institutions, and the industry.
