Point Break Secures Seed Investment from Altos Ventures

Seoul, South Korea-  Point Break, the operator of South Korean skincare brand bttr, announced on Tuesday that it has secured seed funding from Altos Ventures.

The investment amount was not disclosed.

Altos Ventures was the sole investor in this round, citing the company’s brand-building capabilities and the founding team’s execution as reasons for the investment.

Point Break was co-founded by Sohn Ho-chul, who previously founded the contemporary fashion brand Satur.

The leadership team includes Chief Strategy Officer Lee Jin, who manages global strategy and external communications, and Chief Operating Officer Seo Gi-ho, who oversees product development and operations.

The company operates under the brand name bttr, an abbreviation for "The better Standard." The company said the brand intends to focus on product quality and skin health standards rather than aggressive marketing.

"While the fashion industry is about expressing individuality, skincare is a domain for managing health and daily routines," said Sohn Ho-chul, chief executive of Point Break. "Leveraging our experience in fashion, we aim to establish a brand with sustainable standards within the expanding global K-beauty market."

The company said it will use the funds to finalize its product lineup.

The company plans to launch its first product line, designed to bridge the gap between skincare and makeup, in the first week of March.
