Tokyo, Japan - Rakuten Symphony Corp said Friday it has introduced artificial intelligence features to its mobile network management software and extended its partnership with AT&T Inc.

The Japanese telecommunications technology company announced the launch of "Rakuten Site Management 2.0," which features AI functions for automating network deployment.

Rakuten Symphony stated that the platform has registered more than 3.5 million sites globally and claims improvements in site construction efficiency of 60% and deployment precision of 99%.

The new AI features audit photographs of fieldwork uploaded by technicians and provide immediate approval or rejection, along with corrective procedures, the company said.

This replaces a manual review process that previously took several days and often required return site visits.

"When deploying networks rapidly, mobile operators can be hindered by even minor inefficiencies that can cause significant delays and budget overruns," said Vivek Murthy, President of Rakuten Symphony's Network Operations Systems business unit.

Separately, Rakuten Symphony announced that AT&T will expand its use of the Site Management platform under an agreement that builds on a partnership signed in February 2022.

The companies said the expanded collaboration will integrate legacy applications into the Rakuten platform to support AT&T's network simplification project and Open RAN 5G deployment.

AT&T said it reduced its simplification project timeline to 18 months using Rakuten Symphony's solution.

The U.S. carrier announced plans to expand its Open RAN networks starting in 2025 and migrate 70 percent of wireless network traffic to open platforms by late 2026.

Rakuten Symphony said the platform serves more than 10,000 registered users at AT&T and other companies.

The software manages base station deployment through a single interface, coordinating workflow management, site surveys, design, and vendor management.

AT&T has expanded platform use beyond wireless infrastructure to manage fiber expansion planning, the company said.

"AT&T is advancing large-scale projects to support both fiber deployment and next-generation mobile deployment for network modernization," Murthy said.

Alisha Remec, AT&T's Vice President of Network Construction and Engineering, stated that Rakuten Symphony offers "specialized knowledge in workflow orchestration and creative solutions to complex challenges and functions."
