SK hynix Develops 16Gb LPDDR6 DRAM for Mobile AI

SK hynix develops a 16Gb LPDDR6 DRAM using 1c 10nm-class technology, offering 10.7 Gbps speeds and 20% lower power for on-device AI mobiles.

Seoul, South Korea — SK hynix announced the development of a 16-gigabit LPDDR6 DRAM manufactured with its sixth-generation 10-nanometer-class process technology.

The company, which presented the technology at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, stated that it has completed validation of its 1c LPDDR6 memory.

SK hynix indicated plans to prepare for mass production in the first half of the year and to begin shipments in the second half of 2026.

The memory chip is designed for mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets, that utilize on-device artificial intelligence to process data locally rather than via external servers.

According to the company, the LPDDR6 product processes data approximately 33 percent faster than the previous LPDDR5X generation, operating at a base speed exceeding 10.7 gigabits per second due to expanded bandwidth and higher data transmission rates.

SK hynix reported that power consumption is reduced by more than 20 percent compared with previous models.

The company attributed the efficiency to a sub-channel structure that selectively operates active data paths and to the use of Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling technology.

The Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling system adjusts the chip's voltage and frequency according to workload demands, increasing output for more demanding tasks and reducing it during standard use to extend battery life.
