San Francisco, CA - World, a digital identity and cryptocurrency platform, said on Thursday it had reached 38 million users globally in 2025, with 17.75 million people completing biometric authentication through its verification system.

The San Francisco-based company said new users joined its World App platform every 1.7 seconds in 2025, while biometric verifications were completed on average every 3.6 seconds.

World said it became the most widely used self-custody digital wallet globally by monthly active users in September, though it did not provide comparative data.

The platform's mini-app feature, which allows third-party applications to run within World App, recorded 2 billion executions in its first year of launch, according to the company.

World expanded into new markets in 2025, including the United Kingdom and Taiwan, and opened retail locations in Seoul and San Francisco.

The Seoul store opened in August in the Ikseon-dong district.

The company said its Orb biometric scanning device entered mass production this year.

The updated hardware incorporates an NVIDIA Jetson processor that World said delivers five times the artificial intelligence performance of the previous version.

vice operates visible light and infrared sensors simultaneously for identity verification.

World released the Orb's hardware specifications as open source in October.

In December, the company launched an updated version of World App that combines encrypted messaging, financial services, and biometric verification.

The messaging feature uses end-to-end encryption and displays visual indicators to distinguish between verified human users and unverified accounts.

The platform announced partnerships with Match Group for online dating services, and with gaming companies Razer ID and Mythical Games.

World cited data indicating 60 percent of users in online dating suspected their matches might be automated accounts.

The world operates more than 60 Orb verification centers in South Korea. The company said it is pursuing partnerships in social media, online ticketing, and e-commerce.
