Yahoo Japan App Adds AI News Feature

Tokyo, Japan - LINE Yahoo Corporation announced Tuesday that its Yahoo! JAPAN mobile application now displays AI-generated text related to news articles.

The feature is available on iOS version 4.145.0 or higher and Android version 3.201.0 or higher, the company said in a statement.

It works only with articles from organizations the company designates as AI Content Partners — entities that have granted permission for AI processing of their content.

Questions appear below eligible articles. When users select a question, the app opens a chat interface displaying AI-generated text.

Additional questions then appear, which users can select to generate further text.

The generated text includes article summaries, background information, and details about related events, according to the statement.

The system uses only articles from AI Content Partners as source material for generating questions and responses, the company said.

LINE Yahoo stated it uses OpenAI's application programming interface for the feature.

The company does not guarantee the reliability, accuracy, completeness or effectiveness of the AI-generated content.

LINE Yahoo describes itself as an AI company developing AI agent capabilities across its services and seeks to deliver services aligned with users' daily activities.

The Yahoo! JAPAN app includes a separate AI Assistant function that preceded this feature.

Users access it through an icon next to the search field in the mobile app and on the Yahoo! JAPAN website.
