In partnership with Hyundai Motor Group, Watcha, a popular online content streaming service, has announced plans to bring its vast content library to next-generation infotainment systems in new vehicles.

Beginning in the first half of this year, all new Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis vehicles equipped with advanced infotainment systems will include the Watcha service.

Existing vehicles will also receive the Watcha service through over-the-air (OTA) updates. The collaboration will be unveiled at the 2023 Seoul Mobility Show on March 31.

The automotive market has seen a surge in advanced IT-enabled vehicles, such as electric and connected cars, expanding their use beyond transportation to include entertainment and information.

Recognizing the growing importance of infotainment, Watcha and Hyundai Motor Group have worked together to enable users to access OTT services without additional devices conveniently.

As video streaming services dominate the entertainment market, this collaboration is expected to expand further the automotive market and the touch points between content and viewers.

A Watcha representative said, “We are very excited to work with Hyundai Motor to bring Watcha’s service to cars for the first time in South Korea.”

Watcha aims to expand the customer experience by making content accessible in different environments.

Watcha offers unlimited access to more than 100,000 works, including movies, dramas, documentaries, anime, and webtoon content, with over 10 million app downloads.

Its personalized recommendation engine, powered by machine learning and AI, is based on 650 million star ratings from Watcha’s Wikipedia, providing content curation tailored to individual tastes.
