Seoul, South Korea - KT (NYSE: KT) and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to reduce illegal spam messages, the companies announced on Tuesday.

The agreement focuses on using KT's AI technology to identify spam senders' phone numbers and share them with all text message relay providers to block illegal spam preemptively.

Under the MOU, KISA will provide KT with spam report information for analysis using its "AI Clean Messaging" technology.

KT will then create a blacklist of sender numbers, which KISA will verify and share with domestic text message relay operators.

KT's AI Clean Messaging system uses machine learning models to detect malicious URLs and distinguish spam from legitimate messages.

The company has applied this technology to its mass messaging system since January.

KISA expects the collaboration to strengthen spam-blocking efforts.

The improved system, set to launch in October, will use AI to judge URLs' maliciousness and detect context to preemptively block spam.
