Seoul, South Korea - LG Energy Solution announced its entry into the battery safety diagnostics software business, leveraging its expertise in battery management systems (BMS) and two decades of empirical data.

The South Korean battery maker's new software detects battery defects with over 90% accuracy, analyzing issues such as voltage drops during charging and micro internal short circuits.

It is compatible with electric vehicles (EVs) using batteries from various manufacturers.

LG Energy Solution has applied the software to over 100,000 EVs and works with nine global automakers.

The company aims to expand its safety diagnostics software business through collaborations with additional manufacturers.

The software, mounted on automotive BMS, can preemptively detect abnormal signs that could lead to potential issues like thermal incidents.

It is based on data from over 130,000 disassembled battery cells and 1,000 battery modules.

In addition to safety diagnostics, LG Energy Solution has developed technology to diagnose and predict battery degradation precisely.

This software can forecast a battery's future capacity and degradation based on driving patterns and other data, with an error rate in the 1% range.

The company is also developing BMS software optimized for software-defined vehicles (SDVs), utilizing vehicle system-on-chip (SoC) computing performance to enhance computational capabilities and implement more sophisticated battery algorithms.

LG Energy Solution has been strengthening its BMS capabilities through collaborations with companies like Qualcomm Technologies and Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI).
