SEOUL, South Korea—Samsung Medison, a global medical equipment company and an affiliate of Samsung Electronics, has signed an agreement to acquire 100% of the shares of Sonio SAS, a French fetal ultrasound AI software company.

Sonio, established in 2020, has developed artificial intelligence (AI)--assisted solutions for obstetrics and gynecology ultrasound that help medical professionals evaluate and document ultrasound exams.

Its FDA 510(k) cleared AI assistant, Sonio Detect, employs deep learning networks to enhance image quality and clinical accuracy in real-time.

After the acquisition, Sonio will retain its independent status as a company headquartered in France and continue its commercial growth while maintaining compatibility with all ultrasound device manufacturers.

The collaboration between Samsung Medison and Sonio is anticipated to facilitate the advancement of AI-enhanced workflows in prenatal care.

This will be achieved by leveraging Samsung Medison's global ultrasound business and Sonio's advanced AI capabilities.

This partnership's objective is to effect a paradigm shift in prenatal ultrasound examinations and enhance patient outcomes.

The transaction will be completed upon the receipt of applicable regulatory approvals, including the approval of the French Ministry of the Economy and Finance.

The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
