Vancouver, Canada / Seoul, South Korea - In a move that signals a radical departure from legacy network models, Canadian telecommunications provider TELUS is transforming its infrastructure by adopting Samsung Electronics' virtualized and open RAN technology.

Virtualized RAN (vRAN) decouples hardware from software, while Open RAN promotes multi-vendor network architectures.

The result is a flexible and modular infrastructure that provides TELUS with several key benefits:

  • Accelerated innovation: Access to best-in-class components from multiple vendors increases agility and facilitates rapid technology adoption cycles.
  • Operational efficiency: Software-defined elements streamline network management and potentially reduce maintenance costs.
  • Vendor diversification: TELUS reduces its reliance on single vendors.

"vRAN and Open RAN are key enablers for network transformation. Samsung's work with TELUS demonstrates the ability of these technologies to deliver the performance and efficiency required for commercial 5G success."

- Stefan Pongratz, Vice President and Analyst, Dell'Oro Group

While the move brings operational benefits, TELUS is banking on increased subscriber satisfaction and the ability to offer new 5G-enabled services as critical factors in its long-term success.
