In light of COVID-19, many companies have adopted work-from-home (WFH) policies, significantly impacting the tech industry.

A recent survey conducted by Team Blind, an anonymous professional community platform, sheds light on the pros and cons of WFH among tech workers in the US.

According to the survey, 78% of professionals would apply for a fully remote job due to reduced commuting, increased flexibility, and better control over living expenses.

High housing prices in tech hubs like Silicon Valley make remote work attractive. However, some respondents expressed concern about the impact of remote work on social interactions and networking opportunities.

Despite the perceived benefits, WFH also presents challenges.

Burnout has become an increasingly common issue for remote workers, with 68% of professionals feeling more burned out than when working in the office.

Google employees were particularly affected, with 79% reporting increased burnout while working remotely.

A significant contributor to this burnout is the increase in working hours during WFH, with 60% of professionals working more hours than in the office.

Again, PayPal employees topped the list, with 80% working longer hours.

To address these issues, companies need to prioritize the mental health needs of their employees.

The survey found that only 51% of professionals felt their employers understood their mental health needs during WFH.

In addition, 65% of PayPal professionals felt that their employers did not understand their mental health needs while working remotely.

The shift to remote work has undeniably changed the tech industry landscape, and as the pandemic continues, companies must adapt to the evolving needs of their employees.
