Tokyo, Japan—LINE Yahoo Corp announced on Monday a new campaign offering PayPay points to Yahoo Shopping users who choose delivery options that help reduce redelivery attempts.

The campaign comes as Japan's e-commerce sector grapples with logistics challenges ahead of new labor regulations.

The campaign, running from November 11, will award 10 yen worth of PayPay points to customers who select flexible delivery dates, authorize unattended deliveries, or successfully receive packages on the first attempt.

The initiative is part of Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's demonstration project to reduce redelivery rates, addressing the "2024 logistics problem" stemming from new overtime restrictions for truck drivers.

The program will roll out in three phases through January 2025. The first phase, running until November 30, rewards customers who choose delivery dates 3-7 days after the earliest possible date.

The second phase, from December 1 to 22, focuses on unattended delivery options, while the final phase, through January 10, rewards successful first-time deliveries.

Previous similar campaigns have shown promising results, with unattended delivery usage increasing 1.3 times during a similar points campaign earlier this year.

The platform has also reported a 1.4-fold year-on-year increase in delivery box sales in September 2024.

Yahoo Shopping says it will continue expanding delivery options to improve customer experience while addressing logistics sector challenges.
