Seoul, South KoreaBitBlue, operator of virtual celebrity platform Alt.town, has released the results of an online survey of 1,100 global respondents on perceptions of the VTuber industry.

Key findings include:

  • 49% of respondents viewed Japanese anime-style VTuber appearances positively
  • 51.9% cited diverse content as a key reason for liking VTubers
  • 63% believe VTubers can compete with human YouTubers as technology advances
  • 40.3% expressed interest in becoming VTubers themselves
  • 50.7% said a VTuber's fame was most important in determining their value

The survey polled 900 residents of Japan, Vietnam, and Indonesia who use online services daily, plus 200 web3/blockchain experienced users globally.

"With technological advancement and sustainable revenue models, the VTuber industry could greatly expand current entertainment," said BitBlue CEO Sangsik Joo.

BitBlue, which is developing a platform for trading virtual celebrity "value," aims to capitalize on this trend.

Its Alt.town service is slated for global launch later this year, having attracted several popular VTubers during beta testing.
