SEOUL, South Korea - LG Electronics announced that its 600-liter refrigerator models have received the second year's international Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification.

Why it matters

EPD certification highlights the product's reduced environmental impact, a factor increasingly scrutinized by consumers and investors alike.

The Key Points

  • LG Electronics' 600-liter refrigerators are the first from a global appliance manufacturer to receive this EPD certification.
  • The refrigerators feature Inverter Linear Compressor™, vacuum insulation, and an optimized refrigeration cycle for energy efficiency.
  • LG Electronics has been conducting life cycle assessments since 1995 and is committed to long-term environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals.

The Big Picture

LG Electronics has been actively disclosing the environmental impact of its products since the 1990s, in line with international standards such as ISO 14040.

According to Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company, the EPD certifications are designed to help consumers make environmentally responsible choices.

The company's broader ESG goals are outlined in its "Better Life Plan 2030," which aims to reduce carbon emissions from product use by 20% from 2020 levels.

Other goals include using 600,000 tons of recycled plastic and collecting eight million tons of used equipment by 2030.

These targets align with major international regulations, including the European Commission's Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation.

The company provides detailed Environmental Product Declarations for specific refrigerator models currently available in South Korea.
