Jeju, South Korea - South Korean autonomous driving startup Rideflux has launched the world's most extended autonomous public transit service on Jeju Island.

The 116-kilometer round-trip route connects Jeju City Hall and Seogwipo City Hall, marking the island's first autonomous bus line service.

The service, named Tamra Autonomous Driving, will operate on weekdays from July 24 to December, with a safety operator on board.

It will run two routes: the 901 line between Jeju City Hall and Seogwipo City Hall from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the 902 line between Jeju City Hall and Jeju International Airport from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The 901 bus will cover a one-way distance of 58 kilometers in over 1 hour and 40 minutes, navigating through urban roads and expressways with speeds up to 80 km/h.

The service will use Solati vehicles, accommodating up to 12 passengers. Fares are KRW 1,150 for adults and KRW 850 for teenagers.

Rideflux CEO Junghee Park said the service aims to provide autonomous driving experiences to more people daily, potentially broadening positive perceptions of the technology.

The company, which develops autonomous driving software, received South Korea's first permit for driverless autonomous vehicle testing in June, demonstrating its technological capabilities.
