Tokyo, Japan / Seoul, South Korea - Japanese telecom giant NTT Docomo and its South Korean counterpart SK Telecom have released a joint white paper on virtualized radio access networks (vRAN), a key element of future network infrastructure.

NTT Docomo and SK Telecom, leading telecommunications operators in Japan and South Korea, respectively, are deepening their technology partnership with a new white paper focused on virtualized radio access networks (vRAN).

The paper examines the critical elements for vRAN adoption by telecom operators.

Key takeaways from the white paper include the need for increased processing power with reduced power consumption for vRAN base stations.

It also highlights the importance of virtualization capabilities and explores the technical aspects of accelerator technologies.

The latest vRAN paper follows earlier publications on energy-efficient mobile networks and 6G requirements, products of the companies' growing collaboration.

The partnership, formalized in November 2022, aims to advance next-generation telecom infrastructure in preparation for 5G evolution and eventual 6G standardization.
