LINE Pay Japan to End Service by April 2025, PayPay Transfer

Tokyo, Japan — LINE Yahoo Corporation and LINE Pay Corporation have announced the termination of the "LINE Pay" mobile money transfer and payment service in Japan by April 30, 2025. 

The termination does not apply to Thailand and Taiwan, where services will continue to be provided.

LINE Pay was launched in December 2014 and had amassed over 44 million domestic registered users by May 2024. 

The decision to terminate the service in Japan was made following an evaluation of the evolving landscape of the "LINE Pay" platform and a reassessment of the resources allocated within the LINE Yahoo Group.

LINE Pay balances may be utilized for purchases at participating merchants until late April 2025. 

A feature allowing balance transfer to PayPay is planned, enabling continued use at "PayPay" member stores.

Registration for new "LINE Pay" users in Japan will cease by late November 2024. 

Following the cessation of the service in May 2025, LINE Pay will issue refunds for any remaining balances under the Funds Settlement Act.
