Seoul, South Korea - South Korean fintech company Naver Pay announced on Wednesday a partnership with GLN International, a subsidiary of Hana Bank, to launch overseas QR payment services.

The collaboration allows Naver Pay users to make QR payments using their money and points at GLN International-affiliated merchants across nine regions worldwide, including Thailand, Taiwan, Laos, Singapore, Cambodia, Guam, Saipan, and Hawaii. Japan is expected to join the network by the end of October.

In Thailand alone, approximately 4 million merchants will accept Naver Pay, while Japan is set to have about 1 million affiliated stores.

The service, called "Naver Pay X GLN Overseas QR Payment," will be available at major shopping destinations, restaurants, convenience stores, airports, and other locations in the partnered regions.

Users can access the service through the Naver Pay app without additional registration. The system automatically converts Naver Pay balances to local currency at the time of payment, eliminating the need for manual currency exchange.

To use the service, customers select 'GLN' in the payment method popup after clicking the 'NPay' logo in the QR payment tab of the Naver Pay app.

The service automatically detects the user's location and sets the appropriate region.

The payment system supports Customer Presented Mode (CPM), where users generate a QR code for merchants to scan, and Merchant Presented Mode (MPM), where users scan QR codes displayed at stores. Available payment methods may vary by region and merchant.

Naver Pay's domestic "point draw" rewards program will also apply to these overseas transactions, offering users the same benefits as local payments.
