SK Hynix (KRX: 000660) announced that it has developed the world’s fastest mobile DRAM, ‘LPDDR5T (Low Power Double Data Rate 5 Turbo)’.
The company has provided sample products to customers. The new product operates at a data rate of 9.6 gigabits per second (Gbps), which is 13% faster than the previous generation, LPDDR5X1, which was introduced in November 2022.
To highlight the maximum speed of the product, SK Hynix has added the word “Turbo” to the standard LPDDR5 name.
LPDDR5T, which operates in the ultra-low voltage range of 1.01 to 1.12V specified by JEDEC (Joint Electron Device Engineering Council), is a product that features the highest speed and low power consumption.
This new product provides faster and more efficient performance for mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets.
LPDDR5T’s low power consumption is critical for mobile devices as it helps extend battery life and reduce power consumption.
SK Hynix has provided customers with samples of a 16-gigabyte (GB) multi-chip package that combines multiple LPDDR5T French fries in one package.
The packaged product can process 77 GB of data per second, equivalent to transferring fifteen FHD (Full- HD) movies in one second.
With High data processing speed, users can access and transfer large amounts of data quickly and efficiently.
This makes the product suitable for various applications such as streaming videos, online gaming, and other demanding applications.
SK Hynix plans to start mass production of LPDDR5T using 1anm, the fourth generation of 10nm technology, in the year’s second half.
The company has also integrated the HKMG (High-K Metal Gate) process into the latest product so that the new product delivers the best performance.
The company expects LPDDR5T, which has significantly widened the technology gap, “to lead the market ahead of the development of next-generation LPDDR6.”
The industry IT predicts increasing demand for memory French fries with advanced specifications as the 5G smartphone market expands.
In this trend, SK Hynix expects the application of LPDDR5T to expand beyond smartphones to artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and augmented/virtual reality (AR /VR) applications.
