SK Telecom, Singtel Partner on Next-Gen 5G and 6G Networks

Seoul, South Korea—SK Telecom (NYSE: SKM) and Singtel (SGX: Z74) announced on Monday that they have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop next-generation telecommunications networks over the next two years.

The collaboration aims to drive innovation, improve network performance and security, and enhance customer experiences. 

The partners will explore using artificial intelligence and orchestration tools and deepen their knowledge of network virtualization technologies.

The companies plan to develop solutions like Edge-AI Infrastructure to enhance connectivity and provide unique AI service offerings. 

This initiative is expected to improve customer experience and enable faster service restoration.

SKT and Singtel will also produce a white paper on their virtualization, slicing, and network evolution advancements to assist other global telcos in leveraging 5G capabilities and preparing for 6G.

Kang Jong-ryeol, SKT's Head of ICT Infra, described the collaboration as "a significant first step in shaping the future of the global telecommunications industry."

Tay Yeow Lian, Singtel's Managing Director of Networks, emphasized the companies' focus on capitalizing on 5G capabilities, particularly in network slicing and AI integration.
