Seoul, South Korea—SK Telecom (NYSE: SKM) will launch a telco large language model (LLM) in June.

This initiative aims to enhance customer service and network operations.

The model, trained on a vast quantity of telecommunications data, including Korean-specific terminology, is anticipated to streamline interactions and optimize network performance.

A Telco LLM is a specialized AI model capable of understanding and responding to user queries, analyzing network patterns, and predicting potential problems specific to the telecommunications industry.

SK Telecom collaborated with OpenAI and Anthropic to optimize their respective models, GPT-4 and Claude, with Korean-language telecommunications data.

According to the company, the telco's LLM will be integrated into various customer-facing services, such as chatbots and voice assistants, to provide more accurate and efficient support.

Moreover, the AI will assist network operators in real-time monitoring and troubleshooting, reducing response times and improving network reliability.

SK Telecom anticipates that the Telco LLM will enhance customer satisfaction, diminish operational expenditures, and augment overall operational efficiency.

Moreover, the company intends to provide an "intelligence platform" enabling other telecommunications operators to develop and deploy their AI applications utilizing multiple LLMs and AI tools.
