SoftBank Tests Smart Stadium Tech at PayPay Dome

Source: Softbank

Fukuoka, Japan—SoftBank recently conducted successful experiments at the PayPay Dome in Fukuoka, Japan, to transform the stadium into a smart venue.

The experiments, which took place during the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks' home opener on April 3-4, 2024, focused on two key areas;AR navigation uses multiple sensors, and real-time AR performance utilizes numerous networks.

The first experiment combined Visual Positioning System (VPS) and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technologies to measure indoor positioning information, enabling accurate and successful AR navigation.

The second experiment used a combination of BLE and 4G/5G networks to transmit real-time AR performance signals to multiple devices simultaneously.

The success of these experiments paves the way for enhanced spectator experiences in large stadiums and arenas, such as precise AR navigation to seats or rooms and engaging performances that simultaneously display supporting content on visitors' smartphones.

The trials demonstrate SoftBank's commitment to leveraging its expertise in telecommunications and technology to drive innovation in the sports and entertainment industries.

As smart stadium technology continues to evolve, SoftBank's trials at the PayPay Dome serve as a proof of concept for the potential of multi-sensor and multi-network solutions to enhance the fan experience.
