Sony Launches FavoriteSpace: Virtual Sports Fan Engagement App

Tokyo, Japan—Sony Group Corporation (6758.T) unveiled FavoriteSpace, a new service to energize sports fan communities through virtual engagement.

The Japanese tech giant released a smartphone app as part of the service, featuring a dedicated virtual space for Manchester City Football Club content. 

The app allows users to interact with other fans and experience team-specific content in a virtual environment.

Sony's FavoriteSpace app utilizes 3DCG content and tracking technology from its subsidiary Hawk-Eye Innovations to create immersive experiences. 

The initial release includes a virtual reproduction of Manchester City's Etihad Stadium, where fans can view past game highlights from various angles.

The app is available in a free trial version in Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom. 

Sony plans to launch an official version with paid functions in October.

Sony aims to expand the service to include more teams and sports as part of its strategy to enhance fan engagement. 

The company expects this initiative to increase engagement among existing fans and attract new ones.

Sony intends to create new experiential value by enriching fan activities in both physical and virtual spaces.
