San Francisco, CA / Seoul, South Korea - Anthropic has appointed KiYoung Choi as its Representative Director of Korea and announced plans to open a physical office in Seoul, citing high domestic usage rates of its Claude AI model.

According to Anthropic's Economic Index, Claude usage in South Korea is more than 3.5 times the expected rate for the country's population size.

The data indicates that local utilization is concentrated in technical and creative tasks.

Senior Anthropic leadership is scheduled to visit Seoul in the coming weeks to formally open the new office and meet with domestic clients.

Choi joins Anthropic from Snowflake, where he served as General Manager for Korea.

His background includes more than 30 years in technology sector leadership roles across the Asia-Pacific region, including country leadership positions at Google Cloud, Adobe, Autodesk, and Microsoft.

At Anthropic, Choi will manage the local go-to-market strategy and establish partnerships with enterprises, startups, government entities, and research institutions.

Several South Korean organizations are currently deploying Claude for industry-specific applications. Law&Company is using the model to operate an AI legal assistant designed to reduce time spent on legal research and document preparation.

SK Telecom, the country's largest telecommunications provider, has integrated Claude to develop a custom AI customer service model to support its internal service teams.

Chris Ciauri, Managing Director of International at Anthropic, said the company has observed significant demand for Claude in the South Korean market.

He said Choi's understanding of the local technology landscape will be used to build a domestic team and support organizations deploying the model.

Choi attributed his move to Anthropic to alignment between the technical capabilities of South Korean organizations and the company's focus on responsible AI deployment.
