Seoul, South Korea - Chris Dixon, general partner at venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, discussed blockchain technology and digital ownership during his visit to South Korea for Korea Blockchain Week.

Promoting his book "Read Write Own," a Korean version, Dixon highlighted concerns about internet concentration and advocated for blockchain solutions.

Dixon noted that the top five U.S. tech companies now account for 50% of the NASDAQ 100, up from 25% a decade ago.

He cited that the top five social networks made approximately $500 billion last year from advertising and subscriptions, sharing little with content creators.

The venture capitalist expressed concerns about AI's impact on content creation and ownership.

He warned that AI systems trained on user-generated content could replace human creators without compensation.

Dixon's firm has invested in projects like Story Protocol, which aims to allow creators to register and monetize their work on a blockchain.

World Coin, co-founded by Sam Altman, focuses on human verification to combat deepfakes.

On regulation, Dixon supported the recent passage of Bill 21 in the U.S. House of Representatives.

He emphasized the need for permanent rules through legislation rather than executive orders, hoping for bipartisan support in both the House and Senate.

Regarding Asian markets, Dixon identified gaming as a key opportunity in South Korea.

He mentioned cooperation with South Korean game companies and noted the popularity of stablecoins in the region while calling for better regulation.

Dixon's visit to South Korea included a book promotion event, meetings with local entrepreneurs, and participation in Korea Blockchain Week.

He expressed enthusiasm about Korea's entrepreneurial community and its potential in blockchain technology.

The venture capitalist also touched on the combination of blockchain and AI, suggesting that blockchain could provide attribution and compensation mechanisms for AI-generated content.
