Seoul, South Korea—Gangnam Unni announced a campaign to eliminate fake reviews on its app starting in September.

The initiative aims to increase user trust in cosmetic procedures and plastic surgery reviews.

Healing Paper, the company operating Gangnam Unni, will implement the campaign through a banner on the app's main screen throughout September.

The platform employs several measures to ensure review authenticity, including real-time AI monitoring, warning popups for review screenshots, and user reporting of incentivized reviews.

The company developed its algorithm to detect fake reviews using an AI bot.

This system classifies suspicious reviews in real time, targeting bulk submissions or false information from clinics using fake accounts.

Gangnam Unni also monitors clinics, pressuring users to write incentivized reviews.

The app displays warning messages about voluntary submission when users attempt to capture paid reviews and conducts anonymous surveys to detect coercion.

Since January 2022, Gangnam Unni has blocked approximately 100,000 fake reviews.

The platform implements penalties for clinics caught submitting fake reviews, including temporary restrictions on advertising and potential removal from the app after repeated violations.

Gangnam Unni currently serves 6.3 million users, providing information and reviews for 2,200 Korean and 1,300 Japanese clinics.
