Hyundai Deploys 21 Hydrogen Trucks at Georgia Metaplant

ELLABELL, GA—Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) announced on Wednesday that it will deploy 21 XCIENT heavy-duty hydrogen fuel-cell electric trucks in partnership with Glovis America for its logistics operations.

The XCIENT trucks will transport vehicle parts from regional suppliers to HMGMA's Megasite facility daily, initially focusing on routes between suppliers and the on-site Consolidation Center. 

The hydrogen-powered vehicles will constitute over one-third of Glovis America's truck fleet at the facility.

HMGMA CEO Oscar Kwon said the zero-emission trucks offer a cleaner alternative to traditional freight logistics methods used at manufacturing facilities.

The initiative includes plans for a mobile hydrogen refueling station at the Megasite through HTWO Logistics, a joint venture between Hyundai Motor Company and Glovis America. 

A permanent hydrogen production and refueling station is under development, with details to be announced later.

The deployment aligns with Hyundai Motor Group's HTWO hydrogen value chain business brand, which was announced at CES earlier this year. 

HTWO manages the group's hydrogen-related operations, from production and storage to transportation and utilization.

Jim Park, Senior Vice President of commercial vehicle and hydrogen business development at Hyundai Motor North America, said the deployment demonstrates the company's strategy to showcase a closed-loop hydrogen logistics ecosystem while improving manufacturing sustainability.
