Seoul, South Korea—Hyundai Motor Group announced on Thursday a strategic partnership with Google Maps Platform to enhance its vehicle navigation systems.

The partnership builds upon their existing collaboration, which includes the Android Automotive Operating System.

The South Korean automotive group will integrate Google Maps Platform's database, which contains information about 250 million places worldwide, into its navigation systems.

Kia vehicles in North America will be the first to receive this enhancement before a global expansion to Hyundai and Genesis models.

Integrating Google Maps Platform's Places API will provide drivers comprehensive location details, including business hours, contact information, ratings, and reviews through their vehicle's navigation interface.

Chang Song, President and Head of Hyundai Motor Group's Advanced Vehicle Platform Division, stated that the partnership would strengthen the company's development of software-defined vehicle technology while delivering enhanced customer value.

Google Maps Automotive Vice President Jorgen Behrens noted that Google Maps implements over 100 million updates daily to maintain accurate navigation information, which will now benefit Hyundai Motor Group's customers.

The collaboration represents an extension of Hyundai Motor Group's adoption of Google's Android Automotive Operating System, which the company expects will secure its position in software-defined vehicle technology development.

Hyundai Motor Group confirmed its commitment to exploring additional opportunities with Google to advance driving experience innovations and artificial intelligence capabilities in its vehicles.
