Seoul, South Korea - Hyundai Motor Company (005380. KS) unveiled its INITIUM hydrogen fuel cell concept vehicle on Thursday, announcing plans to launch a production version in the first half of 2025.

The INITIUM concept, revealed at the company's 'Clearly Committed' event in Goyang, South Korea, builds on Hyundai's 27-year history in hydrogen technology development.

Hyundai Motor CEO Jaehoon Chang emphasized the company's long-term commitment to hydrogen technology, describing it as a "clean, accessible, and fair energy source for everyone."

The announcement follows Hyundai's HTWO hydrogen value chain business brand launch at CES 2024.

The brand includes hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and utilization solutions.

The company, which became the world's first automaker to mass-produce hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) in 2018, established its hydrogen development capabilities at the Mabuk Environmental Technology R&D Center in 2005.

Hyundai Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung outlined the company's broader hydrogen strategy through the HTWO Grid initiative, positioning it as a key component of its environmental agenda.

The INITIUM, whose name means "beginning" in Latin, represents Hyundai's latest step in advancing hydrogen mobility technology, though specific technical details of the concept vehicle were not disclosed.
